Reduced Prison Sentences For Readers
Brazil has set up a new program that allows inmates to reduce their sentences by reading books and following them up with a report. In return, inmates can receive up to 4 days off of their sentence for each report with a maximum of 48 days commuted per year. Surprisingly enough, the program has proven successful with a 30% decrease in repeat offenders that took part in the program. The end goal is to send inmates back into society better educated and less likely to commit new crimes.
